
I want to take a moment and introduce a designer whom you are probably already familiar with and just don’t know it. Paul Rand was an american designer, illustrator and painter from the mid 1930s thru 1996. Rand, best known for his corporate identities was the mastermind behind IBM, UPS, and ABC’s logos. He was also one of the innovators of the swiss style of graphic design (think helvetica, and minimalism). Louis Danziger once said about Rand, “He almost singlehandedly convinced business that design was an effective tool.”
Basically the guy was a genius.
The thing that stands out most to me is Rand’s clarity in concept. He truly used design in its purest form, to communicate. His work was never cluttered or confused and because of its simplicity it stuck around.
