New
It was April 9, 2008. I had just turned 22, I was 2 weeks from graduating college, my brother was getting married in a few months, I didn’t have a place to live nearby, I was driving a bitchin 1991 Honda Prelude, and I was parked out in front of Rockharbor Church. My palms were really sweaty, and I sat there a few minutes before I had to go inside trying to process the amount of change that...

Never Beyond: People of the Second Chance Poster...
It’s pretty rare when you get to jump on a project that 1. Lets you work with great people and 2. Lets you be part of the process of dreaming up something really special.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to be given one of those opportunities.
Mike Foster is a talented author, speaker, all around good guy, and one of the co-founders of a great community called People of the Second...
Rush Job
Let’s start this off honestly…
Quick turn arounds are something we ALL have to deal with. All industries, all positions…its to the workplace as gravity is to science.
Now that that’s out of the way, lets begin.
If you’re anything like me, there is part of you that gets a little buzz by the thrill of a rush job. The pressure is a challenge waiting to be conquered,...
On Education
I started teaching for my second semester this week.
I never really considered myself the teacher type, nor would I consider myself an expert in design (the subject I’m teaching). I had a grand elusion of my class resembling that of Robyn Williams’ in “Dead Poets Society”, but much to my dismay, it wasn’t. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t live up to the...
I'm Back...
Took a long break from this thing, but am back and ready to jot down more miscellaneous, hopefully interesting insights.

Anyway, here are some snapshots of a recent RH project.

CARTOGRAPHY
A snapshot from a project I am working on. I must say, maps are pretty fun to make.
LITTLE SNAPSHOT
Here are some elements I created for an infographic about college students. Drew some inspiration from Mikey Burton. Happy Monday.
I just might try to utilize this today with the help of teuxdeux.
I want to take a moment and introduce a designer whom you are probably already familiar with and just don’t know it. Paul Rand was an american designer, illustrator and painter from the mid 1930s thru 1996. Rand, best known for his corporate identities was the mastermind behind IBM, UPS, and ABC’s logos. He was also one of the innovators of the swiss style of graphic design (think...

I posted a few new goodies on my site this weekend, and will be posting some recent projects very soon. Check it out here.
BACK
Been a busy few weeks, but I am back to the blogging world and am excited to put some recent work up here. As most of you know Easter was celebrated yesterday & working at a church this means that lots of work goes into preparation. The great thing about where I work is that they see the importance in creating culturally relevant material that attract people other than your 70 year old...

HIATUS (temporary of course)
Well between moving, and this little thing I like to call Easter, life has gotten a bit busy. So, this means I will have less time to tend to this.
Be back in a few weeks.

THINKING FOR A LIVING
Thinking for a living is a site that was just relaunched which features the thoughts and ethos of designers. It looks really inspiring and helpful and just thought that you should know know about it.
A DAY LATE
This is a day late, but thought it needed to be recognized anyway. Thanks photoshop, for…well whatever it is you do.

ON INSPIRATION
I’m fascinated by the idea of creativity.
The fact that someone can, out of nothing, develop an idea, solution, something beautiful, something different than the norm, is quite honestly unbelievable. Its obviously more than just synapses firing in our brains, if that was the case then finding a formula to creativity would be far to easy and essentially render the whole process void. But...
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
I know that not everyone in the world is a designer. This is a good thing. However, everyone in the world does work with color. This is also a good thing if done properly.
I found this clever, well designed cheat sheet and thought “This is something everyone in the world should memorize.” So consider this my part in making the world a better, more color conscious place.
Read it,...

C’mere. I want to tell you a secret. Something that might change how you see our profession, how you go about learning and how you perceive your position in it. Come closer. Closer, still. OK. Ready for this? OK. Here we go.

BRANDING
I am working on a few branding projects and have been looking for some inspiration. I stumbled on this project a few times and thought that it was simply amazing.
PTMK is a design collective based in Austin, who have done some great branding work.
SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT
I am speaking at my alma mater tonight about design. Here is the poster I made for it. If you are in the riverside area tonight at 7pm I would love to have you there.

ON A POSITIVE NOTE
I know our world has a lot of problems, its just the reality we live in. But every once in a while you get to see glimpses of goodness where people buy into the idea of humanity as one and are willing to sacrifice for the sake of others. I have been really impressed with the support Haiti has been given. I know that the media has a strong pull to which disasters we learn about about, but with...

BECAUSE I REFUSE TO LET ADHD WIN
Frank Chimero wrote an amazing article (here) about how distractions can rob you of more than just time. It was so compelling that I decided to look up some ways I can be better about not giving in to the soft glow of mindless internet browsing, but first some thoughts.
Essentially the following is true; the more time we spend exploring unnecessary things on facebook, craigslist, or blogs the...
